Truth’s Table Podcast is a table “built by Black women and for Black women.”
The hosts are Michelle Higgins, a Movement for Black Lives Activist and powerhouse singer, Dr. Christina Edmondson is a former trauma therapist and College Dean, Ekemini Uwan is a Public Theologian and fierce fashionista. We are three Black Christian women who love truth and seek it out wherever it leads us. We share our perspectives on politics, race, culture, entertainment, and gender which are filtered through an accessible yet robust Christian theological framework interspersed with hearty cackles and cathartic tears.
Truth’s Table has been ranked among Apple’s Top 200 Religion & Spirituality podcasts, which is one of the most competitive charts due to the sheer volume of religion and spirituality shows in the podcast market. Truth’s Table was listed by the New York Times as one of their recommended “Race Related” podcasts. The Atlantic, New York Times, and Huffington Post have featured articles about Truth’s Table and our podcast has been sampled by Grammy Award Winning Hip-Hop Artist, Lecrae’s album, All Things Work Together.
The women of Truth’s Table, individually and collectively, are listed by Christianity Today Women as “10 New or Lesser-Known Female Theologians Worth Knowing” and Truth’s Table is also listed on CT Women’s “12 Podcast For Your Summer Listening List.” In 2018, Podcasts in Color listed Truth’s Table Podcast in the “Top 10 Podcasts by Women.” In 2020, Truth’s Table was ranked in Black Pod Collective’s Top 40 Podcasts of 2020. In 2021, Truth's Table was given the IMPACT Award from The Institute for the Study of the Black Christian Experience for our impact on Black women and Black families.
Meet Ekemini Uwan
Ekemini Uwan is a public theologian who received her Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS). She is the co-host of Truth's Table podcast alongside Michelle Higgins and Dr. Christina Edmondson. During her time at seminary, Ekemini won the 2015 Greene Prize in Apologetics Award. In 2018, Christianity Today named her among "10 New or Lesser-Known Female Theologians Worth Knowing.”
Her writings have been published in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post Black Voices, Christianity Today, and The Witness: A Black Christian Collective to name a few. Her insights have been quoted by CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The New Yorker among other publications. As one who is passionate about sound theology, Ekemini has a fierce commitment to biblical orthodoxy and its implications for issues pertaining to racial injustice, anti-black racism, and white supremacy.
Ekemini believes that theology can and does speak to the culture, social, and political issues of our present day. As a result, she often speaks, opines, and writes about the aforementioned for various online publications. Ekemini's voice has been sampled on Lecrae's album, All Things Work Together and Sho Baraka's The Narrative.
In her spare time, she enjoys discipling women, spending quality time with loved ones and working out. As a self-proclaimed part-time fashionista, she has a penchant for thrift shopping.
Meet Michelle Higgins
Michelle is a Director and founding member of Faith for Justice, a Christian advocacy group dedicated to continuing the biblical story of activism. Faith for Justice promotes public justice actions and leads training events that connect Christian communities to Black Power movements.
Michelle is proud to be co-founder of Action St. Louis, where she organized multiple bailout campaigns with national and local groups seeking to address the criminalization of poverty as it impacts Black people. This resulted in her launching the St. Louis office for the Bail Project, and serving as Lead Organizer for the campaign to #ClosetheWorkhouse, a local jail in Saint Louis under lawsuit for inhumane treatment of inmates. As a member of the Operations team for the Electoral Justice Project of the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), Michelle supports the work of organizations working nationally to ground local contexts in the Black queer feminist politic.
Michelle actively promotes the pursuit of social justice as a gospel imperative. She participates in civil disobedience and disruption for the sake of public justice; and often works as a consultant for event design, leadership development, and worship arts in faith spaces.
Michelle holds an M.Div from Covenant Theological Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri. She has deep roots in the Pentecostal worship tradition. She can be heard regularly on the podcast Truth’s Table. Michelle lives in Saint Louis city with her two children.
As Senior Pastor at St. John’s Church – The Beloved Community, Michelle is the first woman to be settled as lead pastor and teacher in the congregation’s 160 year history.
Meet Dr. Christina Edmondson
Blessed by an array of academic, professional and lived experiences, Christina is committed to bringing people together to promote personal and team flourishing.
Christina holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Tennessee State University, a MS degree from the University of Rochester in Family Therapy, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Hampton University.
For over decade, Christina has served in a variety of roles including recently as the Dean for Intercultural Student Development at Calvin University. Within the Higher Education sphere, she continues to serve as an instructor and partners with several universities to develop ethical and impactful leaders. Additionally, a Certified Cultural Intelligence facilitator, public speaker, and mental health therapist, Christina is often contacted by churches to consult about leadership development, anti-racism, and mental health issues. Her writing has been seen and referenced in a variety of outlets including Essence.com, YourBlackWorld.com, and Gospel Today magazine. She is also one of the co-hosts of the Truth's Table podcast.
